How to multi-task as a working mother

This week our fab mummy blogger Jane reveals how her idea of parenting a new baby was a little far from the reality! Did motherhood come as a surprise to you?

...

I was 5 months pregnant with my second child when I decided to start my new business. Maybe I thought it'd keep me occupied and make the pregnancy go quicker or something!

I remember telling my partner "I'm so tired at the moment, I can't do everything I want to do, there's so much to do! It'll be so much easier when the baby comes..."

"Pardon?!"

"Yeah, when the baby is here, I'll get so much done. He can nap next to me in the moses basket whilst I work on the computer. I can take him to meetings, no one will mind. He can sit in the pram whilst I teach lunchtime lessons, it'll be so much easier!"

Please bear in mind I already have one child, so am totally convinced there is a chemical release in women's brains that makes them forget exactly how difficult babies are! My partner told me later how he was listening to all this incredulously, and wanted to be supportive, so just smiled and didn't say anything.

I'm reminded of this today... I only have a short window of time to write whilst waiting for the car to have its MOT, and I've timed everything perfectly so my son should have been napping, but he is not and I'm trying to keep him entertained and hold him with one hand whilst typing with the other.

My index finger has lost all feeling. I feel rigamortis settling in.
