The Independent Investigates BPA

Two powerful articles have appeared on The Independent website today on the prevalence and the danger of BPA in baby products sold in the UK.

In the first article, Michael Hickman, the Consumer Affairs Correspondent, highlights the fact that it is still legal for BPA to be used in baby products here in UK, in contrast to Canada and some US states where BPA has been banned in baby bottles.

The article also touches on the differing views between UK retailers on the risks of BPA and explains the highly charged debate between independent and industry scientists on the potential effects of this chemical on human health. See article. In the second article, Hickman delves further into the research into the potential damaging effects of BPA and explains why it has become such a major concern amongst parents.

He also explains in depth why there is yet no scientific consensus on BPA and ends the article by asking “It comes down to who you trust – industry-funded or independent scientists?” That's a great question! See article
