France bans BPA baby bottles

In early April, this blog reported news that France was set to vote to ban BPA in baby feeding bottles. The vote has now taken place within the National Assembly, and has resulted in a unanimous vote in favour of a ban on BPA, and is expected to come into force by the end of June.

Health warning on chemicals in perfumes

The VUPbaby blog has plenty of reports on the danger of chemicals in baby products and their link to a number of health defects. But now in a new report, “Not So Sexy : The Health Risks of Secret Chemicals in Fragrance”, by Environmental Defence Canada, warns that many popular perfumes and fragrances on the market contain a variety of chemicals. These chemicals are labelled as “hidden ingredients”, including phthalates, and can trigger a host of allergic reactions.

BPA could affect male hormone levels

A new US research study has concluded that bisphenol A (BPA) could be responsible for changing hormone levels in men. The paper, published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology, said BPA was detected in 89 per cent of urine samples and that men with higher urine BPA concentrations had follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and lower levels of inhibin B, both of which have been associated with poorer sperm quality.

US President’s Cancel Panel to state chemicals pose dangers for health

US President Obama’s Cancer Panel is about to publish a breakthrough report stating that human health can be adversely affected from chemicals in the air, food and water and that previous lax regulation has increased health risks. The panel will warn that children are particularly vulnerable to harmful chemicals and amongst the things to avoid include plastic food containers. The report is likely to boost the efforts of those who are pressing hard for more regulation of chemicals.

US town bans plastic bottles
