California bans BPA in baby bottles

The battle against BPA has secured another victory this week, thanks to the 'Toxin Free Infants and Toddler Act', a bill banning the use of BPA in baby bottles and cups in California. The bill, AB 1319, was introduced by Assemblywoman Betsy Butler, who argued that BPA is harmful to babies, and that bottles and cups are a significant source of exposure during vulnerable periods of development.

Important BPA legislation test-case: California

This week, the California legislature plans to wrap up its legislative session and make many decisions about the services, priorities, and the budget of their state. Amongst these very tough decisions, legislation to ban the toxic plastics chemical bisphenol A (BPA) from baby bottles and sippy cups sold in California is finally moving to the California Senate floor: the Senate’s Environmental Quality Committee recently approved the Toxin-Free Infants and Toddlers Act, and a Senate vote on the legislation may come before the end of August.

Arnie’s support for BPA ban could add pressure on Cameron

This blog has recently reported how California is getting ever closer to banning BPA in all food containers for children under 3 years old. If the bill gets the backing from California governor Arnold Schwarznegger would mean that the state joining Denmark, Canada and three other states in banning BPA. The strides California is making on this issue is further giving impetus to British campaigner’s efforts to persuade the UK’s coalition government, led by David Cameron, to consider taking similar action against the use of BPA.

California bans BPA on second attempt

The California State Assembly has passed the Toxin-Free Toddlers and Babies Act (or SB797) to ban the use of bisphenol A (BPA) from baby products for children three years old and younger. This was the second attempt to pass the bill after the bill failed to pass by only four votes last month. California is clearly coming out strongly against the use of BPA, and this vote follows the banning the use of plastic bags in groceries and pharmacies from January 1, 2012.

We all know that California and Californians themselves are known for healthy living. But now they have taken healthy living one step further with the California Assembly deciding to ban the use the of plastic bags in groceries, pharmacies, and liquor stores from January 1, 2012. It’s our bet then that Californians wholeheartedly supported NO PLASTIC DAY which occurred on June 8th – a worldwide event that brings awareness of the over consumption of disposable plastic goods.
