British scientist warns of cancer link to BPA

The BBC reports that a University of Ulster scientist has issued a warning that the chemical bisphenol A (BPA) used in plastic bottles can trigger toxins that lead to cancer. Professor Anna Soto said her research work meant that she would “be calling for a banning of BPA” in the manufacture of plastic bottles.

US President’s Cancel Panel to state chemicals pose dangers for health

US President Obama’s Cancer Panel is about to publish a breakthrough report stating that human health can be adversely affected from chemicals in the air, food and water and that previous lax regulation has increased health risks. The panel will warn that children are particularly vulnerable to harmful chemicals and amongst the things to avoid include plastic food containers. The report is likely to boost the efforts of those who are pressing hard for more regulation of chemicals.
